I bought this for my niece who is 7. My sister's wary of giving kids knives to work with, and as a result, my niece didn't get to help chop anything for dinner - she'd be given tomatoes and lettuce and get really frustrated when they wouldn't slice properly with her blunt kids knife. So I bought her this. It's an oddly deceiving knife, you'd assume that it wouldn't chop much, and to look at, and even touch, it doesn't seem as if it's going to cut through anything, but it does. It's definitely safe for kids to hold, which was my main priority. It's cute that it's styled like a little dog, and everyone giggled that it had a little tail and everything. It put my sister's mind at rest too which was a bonus. That day my niece chopped carrots, potatoes, broccoli and red pepper, without any difficulty and we all made a Sunday Roast. It cut through everything really well. That was the first time my niece had willingly eaten her veggies without complaint. She is a VERY picky eater and refuses to touch veggies. Now, she says that the carrots don't taste as nice unless she chops them with her special dog knife. Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing yet, but she enjoys being involved with the cooking and meal prep, and she ate a carrot, which she HATED before we bought this knife. That in itself is good enough for me.
