I'm putting a review here that I wrote for the black handle/black blade version of the Terminus: I have many locking folders from Cold Steel, Spyderco, and sometimes CRKT, for EDC. However, I work just north of New York City, where state law is grossly misinterpreted to make any folding, locking knife a "gravity knife" - even though obviously the rest of the state has no problem selling such blades everywhere. (I gave a simple folding knife to a co-worker only to have him arrested in the Bronx on his way home. It took writing a 2-page letter to the DA to drop the charges.) SO - I'm buying some slip-joint blades for when I need to actually go into the Big Wormy Apple. Most slip-joints are unsafe and weak for real work or self-defense. Spyderco has some good ones, but they are small and thin. I thought this Terminus sounded a little heftier than others and took a chance. I really, really like this knife for the purpose I got it for! It opens easily, but only with 2 hands, so that helps legality. The slip-joint is incredibly strong. The way it snaps in sounds and feels stronger than a liner lock and some lockbacks. No blade play at all, typically SOG sharp, lightweight but robust. Great pocket clip (although you can't use that in NYC). The cutting edge of the 3-inch blade uses as much of the length as possible. Great jimping for the thumb, and I love the little guard for the index finger that provides a bit of protection against slipping or the blade closing. Excellent, practical design. Yes, it was a beast to close, at first. But I tried the advice of a SOG representative to another reviewer and it works perfectly: put the index finger tightly against the guard, then press hard against the back of the blade with the thumb. The guard will stop the blade from closing after it "breaks loose" from the open position, yet leaves it loose enough to switch grip and safely finish closing. This technique allows one-hand closure. I know the pivot will loosen up as well, and I'd much rather have a super-tight slip-joint I have to press hard than a bump-and-close pocketknife. For a tactical feel in a legal package, I heartily recommend this knife - especially at this price, with BD-1 steel. I think I'm going to fully retire my Spyderco UK penknife.
